Cool Home Lights

Changing your home lights is one way to keep your home coll during the hot summer months. Incandescent lights give off lots of heat energy, so replacing these with cool fluorescent bulbs is one way to reduce heat and your energy bills as well. It's estimated that by changing the bulbs in the five lighting fixtures you use the most, you can save up to $70 a year.

Another way to cut back on summer energy costs is to get your air-conditioner tuned up on a yearly basis. This will save on costs and also prevent a breakdown during the hottest conditions. It costs between $75 and $100 for an air-conditioning tune up. It's best to schedule the tune up for a season other than summer, because repair shops tend to raise their rates during the summer when demand is highest.
