EU Agrees To Philips’ Acquisition of Spanish Light Fixture Manufacturer, Indal

European Union (EU) has sanctioned the acquisition of Spanish light fixture manufacturer Indal by Philips, Netherlands. EU cleared the acquisition under the EU Merger Regulation and confirmed that the transaction would not act as a threat to the markets for lamps, light fixtures, light fixture components, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and LED modules considering the number of players in this industry. However, the merged entity will definitely become a principal supplier with significant market share in the outdoor market segment. After the merger, Philips would be able to exploit the strategic advantage of Indal as a famous manufacturer of professional light fixtures, and Indal can fully utilize the efficiencies of Philips as a manufacturer in the upstream markets for lamps, light fixture components, LEDs and LED modules.
