Google Home Lights

Google recently showed off a new home lights solution as part of its Android@Home initiative. The new LED light bulb, created by Lighting Science Group, includes a data radio that's embedded right into the bulb.

The advantages of these bulbs as opposed to traditional lighting controls include the fact that there is no need for an electrician to build a radio into the wall mounting. NXP Semiconductors is another company that produces both LED and compact fluorescent bulbs that can be controlled wirelessly via mobile devices. Artison has attempted to combine two smarthome technologies into one device by partnering with lighting company Sylvania to create MusicLites. This product combines a distributed audio system with lighting controls for a starting price of $250. The heart of the system is the MusicLites Model 1, which is an LED bulb that fits into a specialty lighting can that includes a 70mm loudspeaker.
