A colleague has been undertaking renovations on his house, one step at a time. He started with beautiful shelving in the living room, and progressed to all new lighting throughout the house, which had been one of the things he was looking forward to the most. He was so pleased with it. Not only could he enjoy a new ambiance, which, by the way, is usually best achieved through proper design, as he had done, but he could also really see better in the different parts of his house. With this, he said it really showed up his floors…some of which didn't cut muster in the better visibility! So he decided to have those redone and went with Empire Today. While talking to a sales representative, it occurred to him that the nature of that job might be just right for his daughter, who is taking some classes on interior design but also needs a job. So he found out about Empire Today Careers. and she's now in the process of applying for a job there. At work, we were joking how his new lighting at home shed light not only on how he needed some new floors, but also on a job opportunity for his daughter! So keep this example in mind…next time you're using a company to perform something you need done, they could be a resource for job opportunities for you or someone you know. In these economic times, good to shed light on every area of possibility!

Compact fluorescent bulbs power the next generation of home lighting solutions. Many homeowners in the US have already switched over to these types of bulbs thanks to federal legislation which requires bulbs to 25% more energy efficient by 2012.

Republicans have attempted to strike down this bold legislation, which would essentially put the incandescent bulb out of business in the US, but so far their efforts have failed. Compact fluorescent bulbs make sense for lots of reason, including the basic fact that they last longer than incandescent bulbs and they also consume less energy. The drawback is that when these bulbs do burn out, they cannot just be disposed of with your everyday trash because they contain trace amounts of mercury. Instead, consumers must return the CFL bulbs to a retail stores which offer free recycling bins for these bulbs.
